iPhone 7 Release Date Rumors: e-SIM Would Allow For On The Fly Switching Of Carrier Networks

The iPhone 7 release date is still a ways away, but Apple is prepping is upcoming device with new technologies. The latest iPhone 7 rumors say the device will likely bring a new type of SIM card called e-SIM. Along with Force Touch and updated internals, the iPhone 7 — or possibly 6s — could bring with it the new SIM card technology.
9 to 5 Mac, via Financial Times, offers up the first glimpses of Apple’s coming e-SIM initiative. The SIM card’s support of multiple carriers would allow users to switch networks — not by replacing the SIM card — but via the device’s user interface. This would make for easier switching between carriers like Verizon, AT&T and other cell networks should users choose to change. In addition, it would also allow Apple to bring a more seamless design to their iPhone 7.
e-SIM could make its way into the iPhone 7 or even 6s. A newly numbered iPhone would bring with outward design changes. In contrast, “S” upgrades bring about internal adjustments like speed and camera improvements.  Weirdly enough, the e-SIM upgrade would fall under both. Along with improving on the current SIM card inside the iPhone, the new spec would alter the internal and externals of Apple’s next smartphone. Providing multiple carrier support on one SIM would remove the need for the right-side port users rarely ever access. The change could be part of an iPhone 7 upgrade or 6s — depending on how soon Apple is ready to roll out the change.
Other important changes are coming to Apple’s next iPhone in addition to the possible e-SIM. Force Touch is the most prominent iPhone 7 rumor. Currently on the Apple Watch and newest Macbook, Cupertino’s latest inclusion allows for pressure sensitivity in their touchscreen devices. We could see iOS 9 introduce this to the mobile lineup upon the arrival of the iPhone 7.
