Huawei announced that it sold 48.2 million smartphones in the first six months of 2015, an increase of 39 percent from the same period a year ago. Improved sales in the high-end segment allowed the vendor to net a revenue increase of 87 percent to $7.23 billion.
The manufacturer more than doubled its shipments in China, also witnessing robust growth in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Huawei highlighted Italy and Spain as two countries where it witnessed a healthy sales growth in the European region.
After selling 75 million smartphones in 2014, the Chinese manufacturer is now on track to reach the 100 million milestone this year. With Xiaomi announcing that it sold 34.7 million phones in the first six months of 2015, Huawei can take the lead in its home market if sales numbers continue to rise.
Recent rumors suggest that Huawei will manufacture the next Nexus, which has the potential to catalyse sales heading into the latter half of the year.
